Woolly Bears

Click to enlargeIt must be October because the Woolly Bear caterpillars are out. My son and I followed this one around. It was hard to take his picture, he moved so quickly. We picked him up and he curled up into a ball. According to web sites we looked at, the stiff hairs can detach from its body but we didn’t see that happen. If it survives the winter, it will eventually transform into an Isabella Moth. It’s funny that there doesn’t seem to be much correlation between the appearance of the caterpillar and adult forms. I would have expected something more attractive than this moth.
