IBM Teletubbies

In the early 90s Lotus changed its advertising and box designs to use yellow as the dominant color. The idea was to have Lotus products stand out among the sea of bland white boxes on display shelves. When Lotus became part of IBM this brand color was retained. When IBM consolidated its software offerings into four groups, the other brands were given a color as well: Websphere was purple, DB2 was pale green and Tivoli was red. Someone noticed that these were the same colors as the four Teletubbies. When IBM acquired Rational and made it the fifth software group, I thought that the mapping no longer worked. Apparently I was wrong. Rational uses Prussian blue which is same color as the Teletubbies’ vacuum cleaner Noo-noo:

Wow. This is too much to be a coincidence. Someone at IBM must really, really like the Teletubbies.
