Top Ten Films of 2008

Filmcritic.com has a dozen Top Ten lists of films from 2008. Quite a varied collection with no clear winners. I don’t think I saw enough good films last year for a proper top ten list but thinking about the films that I saw, I compiled a list of ten that I liked best in approximate order of preference:

  1. The Dark Knight
  2. Ironman
  3. WALL-E
  4. Slumdog Millionaire
  5. Red Belt
  6. Burn After Reading
  7. Cloverfield
  8. The Bank Job
  9. Rachel Getting Married
  10. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

And here’s my list of the bottom ten films that I saw in 2008:

  1. The Happening
  2. Speed Racer
  3. Pineapple Express
  4. Hancock
  5. Wanted
  6. Eagle Eye
  7. The Incredible Hulk
  8. Don’t Mess With The Zohan
  9. Blindness
  10. National Treasure 2

I know some people liked The Happening and I dumped on it. It’s not just because it’s terrible. It’s because it’s an M. Night Shyamalan film and it’s terrible. Directors like Uwe Boll can’t help but make terrible films (or don’t care). Shyamalan can obviously do better.
